Since Hangzhou proposed the idea of creating “the National Environmental Protection Model City in 1998, Hangzhou Environmental Protection Bureau has accelerated the improvement of the city’s comprehensive treatment by carrying out the four major environmental protection projects—“Blue Sky, Clear Water, Being Green, Being Quite”. With the efforts of Hangzhou Environmental Protection Bureau and other related departments and organizations, the city’s air and water quality have seen an overall improvement.

           In June,2001, Hangzhou was awarded the honorary title of National Environmental Protection Model City. In May 2004, Hangzhou (including Xiaoshan District and Yuhang District) also successfully passed a "Model City" technical verification.

           At present, focusing on the idea of “Building Up Hangzhou to be the first Ecological City of Zhejiang Province in 2015” proposed by Hangzhou Municipal Government, Hangzhou Environmental Protection Bureau is vigorously carrying out “1278” Comprehensive Environment Treatment Project and “1250” Eco-Construction Project. By implementing the two projects, Hangzhou Environmental Protection Bureau is making all its efforts to help realize the co-ordinary development in Hangzhou from both the economic and social aspects, and to achieve the harmony between man and nature.
